My story

Czech born and bred, Ozzie by choice…

Born and educated in the Czech Republic I have been calling Australia home since 2002.

Both, my Dad and Grandpa were keen amateur photographers and they used to let me help them develop photographs in their safelight illuminated pitch-black room which contained an enlarger and trays with chemicals that smelled disgusting. Witnessing black and white images magically appearing on a photo paper, from a big white NOTHING into SOMETHING, was fascinating for me as a kid!

Although my focus has been shifting over the years, I am still absolutely mesmerised by light and people's expressions. I have always loved having these small snapshots of those moments we may not remember without a photo. Sharing my passion with others is just a bonus.

That’s my story. What’s yours? Can’t wait to find out!

Nailing the brief...

When I saw a brief for a photo competition, "Transformation Mandurah Bridge Photographic Award", held by City of Mandurah in 2018 aiming to document the iconic Old Mandurah Bridge being replaced by the new one, I knew I had an image in my portfolio which would perfectly fit the brief. I never aspired to beat anyone. I simply had to submit it because it was apt on so many levels!

Not only were the little boy and the worker exchanging their looks near the building site, but the bridge itself was changing its looks. The new bridge was coming while the old bridge was leaving. The old passed the baton to new. Judges commented that I "have got eye for it", that the timing and the wit were the reasons why my image received the highest honours.

Me pictured here with Hon. David Templeman, Minister for Culture and the Arts, Local Government, and Heritage and Mandurah Mayor Rhys Williams.

Part of Mandurian Stories tapestry...

I guess you can now call me a published photographer!

This time not an event photographer at the launch of the book but a contributor for "Mandurian Stories", a book which is a tapestry of poetry, writing, painting and photography pieces submitted by local artists from all walks of life and its proceeds will go straight back to Mandurah community. I also humbly accepted the Photography Award for one of my submitted images, Storm Coming, which is one of my scarce seascapes photography images not featuring people! Very grateful to be able to share what I love with public this way!
